Minecraft Movie Set for May 2019

Warner Bros. and Mojang, the Stockholm, Sweden-based parent company of the popular video game “Minecraft,” announced the Minecraft movie will be released on May 24, 2019 in 3D and IMAX.

2019 may prove to be a record year for entertainment licensing.

While it may be three years away, the first Minecraft movie could not only be a box office blockbuster, but a licensing hit as well.

Warner Bros. and Mojang, the Stockholm, Sweden-based parent company of the popular video game “Minecraft,” announced the movie will be released on May 24, 2019 in 3D and IMAX.

“Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome,” the Mojang announcement states. “And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?”

In 2019, there will be several other top franchises hitting the big screen including: The LEGO Movie Sequel, SpongeBob SquarePants 3, Captain Marvel, Godzilla 2, The Fast and Furious 9, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2, The Incredibles 2, Transformers 6, Indiana Jones 5 and Wicked, among many others.

Based on the lineup of movies in the pipeline, 2019 could prove to be a record year for entertainment licensing.
